Bahrain Grand Prix: driver of the day

We look at who was the ‘driver of the day’ under the floodlights in Sakhir.

April 6, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - We were treated to a thrilling race under the floodlights in Bahrain and some some brilliant drives and passes.

For me there was only one man who truly deserved the driver of the day title: Sergio Perez.

The Mexican driver was competitive throughout the entire race and made some great passes on Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa and teammate Nico Hulkenberg.

He crossed the line third and took Force India's first podium since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix where Giancarlo Fisichella finished second.

Perez was unable to match Hulkenberg's performance in Australia and didn't start the Malaysian Grand Prix, so it was fantastic to finally see his pace.

Both Force India's appear to be very competitive this year so hopefully this isn't the last time we'll see a Force India on the podium.

Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg definitely deserve a mention too. The Mercedes have been strong all weekend and their wheel to wheel racing is some of the best we've seen in a while.

A second 1-2 finish positions Mercedes as firm title favourites and their rivals need to get a hurry on if they want to stop them.

Despite having a tough time recently Daniel Ricciardo came back fighting in Bahrain and had no issues climbing from 13th place to fourth.

The Australian made some great passes on Kimi Raikkonen and teammate Sebastian Vettel.

Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas looked very competitive throughout the race and pulled off some great moves, but lost positions under the safety car.

We were truly spoilt by the action in Bahrain and it should certainly silence those who complained that the new era is boring.

Who was your driver of the day?
