Button content with 2011 achievements

The Brit has won three races this year and out-performed his teammate on and off the track. McLaren will try to be more competitive for 2012.

SAO PAULO, Nov 24, 2011 (AFP) - Jenson Button says he is "pretty happy" with what he has achieved with McLaren this year and hopes to finish the season with a strong performance at this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.

The 31-year-old Briton has won three races this season and is currently 10 points ahead of nearest rival and third-placed Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso.

Although the 2009 champion was unable to challenge recently crowned double champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull for the title, he admitted he would take some satisfaction from being his closest rival.

Button said: "I am pretty happy with what I achieved. We haven't been quite good enough to win the championship but we have had a pretty strong year.

"I think it is nice to know over a season that you can finish in front of some very good drivers and to finish in front of a Red Bull would be great considering Seb won the title in a Red Bull and Fernando was strong in a Ferrari.

"If I get a chance to beat them of course I will be happy, but we would rather come away with a victory than finishing second in the championship. It's still nice if you come away with second."

Button also played down the importance of finishing the season ahead of his team-mate and English compatriot Lewis Hamilton, and suggested that his win in Japan would be more memorable.

"I think if we were fighting for the world championship and we came out on top it would be a special feeling, but not doing that right now," said Button.

"For me I am happy with what we have achieved this year in getting the most out of the car.

"Japan stands out as a great race, but also other races I have not been able to win, so I take more comfort from the results, not about beating my team-mate over a whole season."
