June 8th, 2012 (F1plus / Gabriel Polychronis).- The Pressure Gauge is a segment that is run on each preview edition of F1 News & Views. It is designed to analyse how much pressure certain drivers are currently bearing.

The Pressure Gauge Levels: Stone-cold, Low, Medium, High, Extreme.

Lewis Hamilton – Low: With Jenson Button not scoring any significant points since the Chinese Grand Prix and Lewis Hamilton leading the Drivers’ Championship, it is easy to say that Hamilton is not under any immediate pressure. He appears to be more comfortable with the McLaren outfit than his teammate, however, with a few tweaks to the car, Button could return to his more familiar form and mount pressure on his teammate.

Jean-Eric Vergne – High: The 22 year old - Jean-Eric Vergne has been looking promising in his first season of Formula One; however, Torro Rosso’s ruthless driver selections puts himself and his teammate on a knife-edge. Sebastian Buemi and Jamie Alguersuari provided a solid 41 points for Torro Rosso in 2011, but the team decided to shaft both drivers, and now they are no longer competing in Formula One. Jean-Eric Vergne however, has alleviated some pressure since he has out raced his teammate five times out of seven races this season.

Daniel Ricciardo – High: Daniel Ricciardo is in a similar situation to his French teammate, as he is also feeling high pressure due to Torro Rosso’s ruthless selection methods. He has been looking very promising, especially in qualifying, but he has been struggling to convert points in races. The team has not been scoring as many points as surrounding teams have, meaning that Torro Rosso’s expectations will be higher than usual. Consequently, Ricciardo needs to be posting better results to hold his seat at Torro Rosso, otherwise he will remain in the High category of the Pressure Gauge.

Sergio Perez – Low: Competition between Sergio Perez and his teammate – Kamui Kobayashi is usually quite even, however, Perez has proved to be a tyre-preserving virtuoso. His tyre preservation skills allowed him to gain a podium position in Montreal. He also found the podium in Malaysia. With Perez also leading his teammate by 16 points, it is easy to categorize Perez in the Low section of the Pressure Gauge.
