April 21st, 2013 (F1Plus / Chris Cameron-Dow) - Reigning triple-World Champion Sebastian Vettel was completely untouchable in the Bahrain Grand Prix, comfortably winning ahead of the Lotus pair of Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
Pole-sitter Nico Rosberg simply did not have the pace to stay in front at the start and was passed by Sebastian Vettel on lap 3, after some very close battling between Rosberg, Alonso and Vettel in the first couple of laps. From then on, there was no challening Vettel as he simply drove off into the distance.
Most of the field made use of 3-stop strategies, but the Lotus of Raikkonen and Force India of Paul Di Resta made very good use of 2-stop strategies to finish second and fourth. For much of the race it looked like Di Resta would score his first ever podium, but the Scot was passed by Romain Grosjean with a few laps to go, after Grosjean had made a late stop for medium tyres.
For Ferrari it was a day of disasters, as Felipe Massa had to crawl back to the pits twice with delaminating tyres and Alonso lost the use of DRS early in the race after his rear-wing stuck open, costing him time in the pits as the Ferrari team manually closed it. Alonso recovered to eighth place, but Massa could do no better than 15th after his tyre failures.
Vettel has now stretched his lead in the championship to 10 points over Kimi Raikkonen, with Lewis Hamilton now third in the standings ahead of Fernando Alonso.
