Di Resta aiming for Q3 at Silverstone

The young Scotsman is hoping to make his presence felt during qualifying at his home race

June 28th, 2013 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Force India's Paul di Resta has been very consistent so far this season, only missing out on finishing in the points once due to a retirement.

While di Resta has been very consistent during races, qualifying is something he seems to be struggling with after starting five races from outside the top 10. Following a strong FP2 session this afternoon, which saw him finish in fourth place, di Resta told F1Plus that “Q3 is the target.”

A few weeks ago in Canada he impressed by managing his tyres perfectly, managing to get a massive 57 laps out of the medium tyre, and was one of only five drivers who managed to pull of a one-stop strategy.

The 2010 DTM Champion told F1Plus that tyre wear was different at Silverstone, but he hoped the warmer track would benefit his team: “This track is proving to wear them (the tyres) quicker than in Canada, I think a lot more like Barcelona. I’m sure you’ll see a few more pit stops but essentially the track's going to be a lot warmer and it will be into the working range of the tyre a lot better, so we should be better in that respect”.

As the teams prepare for the eighth race of the season, Force India are still fifth in the Constructors Championship, 14 points clear of McLaren. When asked if the Silverstone based team were planning on keeping it that way, he said “We’re trying for it. We can’t lose our respect for what McLaren do, who they are, their reputation, their resources and their history. It would be a massive achievement if we do (stay ahead).”

After a miserable experience at the British Grand Prix last year, which saw him retire on the first lap after contact, Paul will no doubt be hoping for a strong result at his home Grand Prix this weekend.
