June 28th, 2013 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - During Friday’s press conference Christian Horner confirmed that only Kimi Raikkonen, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne are in the running to replace Mark Webber at Red Bull in 2014.

Daniel Ricciardo has a long history with the Red Bull family after coming up through the Red Bull Junior Programme, completing test sessions for the Red Bull team and has been racing with Toro Rosso for a year and a half.

When speaking about how he felt about the news he said ‘If I were to have a real strong year, produce some real heavy performances, which unfortunately I haven’t done to my expectations yet, it should hopefully line me up well. I think it’s in my hands."

He then went onto say that he was going to “try and step up now” as “I think we’ve all got the power to try and do it”.

Ever the joker, Ricciardo said that he felt he was best suited to a drive at Red Bull because “I’m just a beast, I’m just an animal just waiting to get out of that cage."

On a more serious note he feels that the Milton Keynes based team are aware of his talent, “I think they know I’m fast and that I’ve got some talent, it’s their choice now, I think I’ve proven that I can race as well”.

After being asked whether he felt Red Bull choosing Kimi Raikkonen would defeat the object of Toro Rosso he replied “I think if they were to choose Kimi, it would be the guy that deserved the seat the most, you know it was probably because maybe Jean-Eric and myself were there or thereabouts but not really showing something to a World Championship class”.

The Australian went on to say that he thought that the reigning World Champions wanted to “choose someone from Toro Rosso,” saying "Ideally they want to see one of us step up and show that we can take charge."

This weekend's race will mark two years in the sport for Ricciardo who made his debut with HRT at the 2011 British Grand Prix. He said that a good race would be "a nice two year little anniversary, a podium would be sweet."
