SPA, Belgium, August 22nd, 2013 (F1plus/G. Keilloh).- Sauber driver Esteban Gutierrez is eager to show more of his talent in the second half of the season. Ten races has served him well to nurture him directly into F1 as a racer.

F1plus was able to ask the Mexican few questions today at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit where the Belgian GP will take place starting tomorrow.

F1Plus: You’re halfway through your debut season as an F1 driver, how has it gone from your perspective?
Esteban Gutierrez:
I’d like to think I’ve learnt a lot of experience since the beginning of the season this obviously has helped me a lot to develop my confidence even though that things have not been very easy in the team situation, the overall situation. So I’ve been trying to use this difficult situation to improve myself and to have this challenge of using whatever I have, every tool.

The performance of the car at the moment is probably not the best, so I need to find (within) myself even more, to prepare myself and my driving and everything, and this makes it quite interesting.

F1Plus: So compared with what you expected from the car at the start of the year would you say it’s been disappointing? Did you expect to fight for points this year?
Well, obviously with the performance of the car last year I was expecting to be in a better position than we have been. I think now that it’s just important what we do in the second half of the season and I’m focussed on that.

In what’s already happened in the first half (of the season), I can only say I’ve learnt a lot and have a lot of experiences and I’m definitely looking forward into the next few races where I feel more confident. In the last few races I’ve felt better and better, just everything needs to come together.

F1Plus: What result are you aiming for this weekend?
EG: I’m looking into the points, obviously it will be quite challenging I have to say, but we have to be open and my goal is for the top ten.

F1Plus: A lot of drivers like Spa as a circuit, what are your views on the Spa circuit?
Yes, it’s one of my favourite circuits, I think every driver can say something similar. It’s the track characteristics make it so nice, very flowing, very quick track and very enjoyable from the driver point of view.

F1Plus: Do you think it suits the Sauber compared with tighter circuits or is there not really much of a difference?
Well that we don’t know, we have to see tomorrow to evaluate that!
