"I just help myself" - Massa

Felipe Massa has hit-out at suggestions that he “helps” Fernando Alonso
Thursday, September 19, 2013

SINGAPORE, September 19th, 2013 (F1Plus / Jacob Polychronis) - Felipe Massa and Stefano Domenicali have both expressed emotion while answering questions from the world’s media today in Singapore.
After being quoted as no longer willing to help team-mate Fernando Alonso, Massa offered little diplomacy in response:

“I don’t help Fernando, I don’t help Ferrari, I don’t help anything. I just help myself.”

Massa is without a contract in 2014 after Ferrari’s decision to employ Kimi Raikkonen for next season. The Brazilian was able to confirm however, that he is currently in negotiations to drive in Formula One next year.

“We are talking with some teams. - I hope we find the best direction. I know I have a lot to do still. I want to find a good car. I’m not interested to be part of Formula One just to be there on the grid.”

Ferrari Team Principal Domenicali conceded the difficulty experienced while deciding who will partner Alonso next year, "It was very difficult (to release Massa), also from an emotional point of view.”

Despite parting ways, Massa still appears to be motivated in his attempt to end his 8-year stint with Ferrari on a high.

“I have a lot of friends inside the team so I want to finish in the best way possible for the last 7 races and try the best I can.”

A psychological war

Domenicali also played down suggestions from drivers that the Raikkonen-Alonso partnership will falter next year due to management difficulties.

“Maybe they have fear because we are strong. Obviously this is part of a psychological war which is part of this environment.”

Free Practice One commences tomorrow at 18:00 local time.
