The pressure remains for Ricciardo

He may have a contract with Red Bull for 2014, but Daniel Ricciardo is still feeling pressure to perform for the rest of this season.

SINGAPORE, September 19th, 2013 (F1Plus / Jacob Polychronis) - Daniel Ricciardo will head into the Singapore Grand Prix still carrying pressure to perform despite having a guaranteed contract at Red Bull next year.

Ricciardo, who will replace compatriot Mark Webber at Red Bull in 2014, will attempt to avoid complacency for the rest of this season.

“It’s (the pressure) not really off. It’s off for me knowing that 'yeah, I’ve got something locked in for next year that’s nice' but they don’t want to see me piss-farting around at the rear of the grid either for the rest of the year,” Ricciardo told F1plus.

Ricciardo is building momentum, following an impressive display in Monza, where he qualified and finished in seventh place. Nonetheless, the Australian’s expectations for the weekend remain subdued.

“We don’t expect it to be our strongest circuit. - I won’t predict too much, we might get a good surprise I hope. I think if we can be strong here then for the rest of the year we are looking good.”

The most physical race of the year

Earlier in the day, Paul di Resta suggested that the Singapore Grand Prix is in fact not the most physical race of the year, contrary to popular belief. Ricciardo, however, was quick to distance himself from that point of view.

“It’s the busiest circuit, it’s the hottest, the longest, it’s everything. Everything is planned for this one to be the most physical. It’s funny, you come from Monza which is probably the least physical race of the year to this one. You really feel it as well – but we manage.”

Temperatures will be around 30 degrees (86 Fahrenheit) all weekend, with humidity levels exceeding 90%.
