Friday, October 4, 2013

October 4th, 2013 (F1Plus / Chris Cameron-Dow) - Sauber and Ferrari have confirmed that they have agreed to extend their current technical partnership into and beyond 2014. Next year's Sauber Formula One car will use the same engine, gearbox and ERS (Energy Recovery System) unit as the works Ferrari car.

The current partnership between Sauber and Ferrari extends back to 2010, when Sauber started using Ferrari engines after BMW pulled out of Formula One at the end of 2009. Previously, Sauber and Ferrari enjoyed a technical partnership from 1997 to 2005.

Ferrari Team Principal Stefano Domenicali said of the deal, “Reaching this agreement consolidates our efforts with regards to Sauber, a team with which Scuderia Ferrari has collaborated off and on for many years.”

Sauber Team Principal Monisha Kaltenborn expressed her satisfaction with the agreement: “We are pleased to extend our technical partnership with Ferrari taking Sauber into the new era of engines that starts in 2014. Ferrari has been a long standing partner of the team, first from 1997 to 2005 and then again from 2010 onwards. We are proud to extend our relationship with such a prestigious and renowned brand and look forward to entering the 2014 season with a strong and reliable partner like Ferrari.”
