“I couldn’t put a lap together” - Massa

Although he struggled to find pace on Saturday, the 2008 championship runner-up doesn’t rule out fighting for the podium in Brazil
Saturday, November 23, 2013

Interlagos, BRAZIL, November 23rd, 2013 (F1Plus / Bruno Ferreira) - Felipe Massa admitted he felt uncomfortable in the last part of qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos. The Brazilian driver, who is competing in his last race weekend with Ferrari, was off the pace throughout Saturday in the tricky weather conditions, and only managed to qualify ninth on the grid.

“I can’t be happy starting ninth. I expected a better qualifying. For sure the conditions were so difficult, a lot of rain. In the end I didn’t have a very good lap as I was missing some grip with aquaplaning. I couldn’t put a lap together,” he commented. “But the race is tomorrow and I hope to give everything in the race.”

Although the weather forecast says it’s very likely the race will be run in the same conditions as seen in qualifying, Massa doesn’t rule out the possibility that he will be in contention for the podium. “Last year I started fifth and I was second on the first corner, but I took a wrong strategy that almost cost me a lap and still finished on the podium. You never know. Everything is possible.”
