March 6th, 2014 (F1plus).- One of the ‘classic’ Formula 1 teams just brought back one of the ‘classic’ racing sponsors: Martini.

The Grove based team of Williams just officially unveiled a new partnership with the Italian drinks company of Martini, which is well known in the racing circles.

The move it was somewhat expected as rumors and speculation were around for few weeks now.

In spite all that, Williams, decided to do all its testing with sober plain blue livery, with the caveat that the official livery will be unveiled in time for the first race in Australia.

The newly team will be branded as Williams Martini Racing, which makes the Italian brand its title sponsor, just like Infiniti is for Red Bull and Vodafone was for McLaren.

The event and media launch was held today from London. It highlighted team drivers Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas being along with Felipe Nasr and Susie Wolff wearing the new ‘cool’ looking overalls that feature the iconic blue and red stripes vertically.

“In MARTINI we have a brand that shares a passion for motor racing and winning championships.

“This partnership is a milestone in our history and we look forward to working closely with MARTINI over the coming years. “ Said Frank Williams during the event.

Without a doubt, the vibe that the Williams team projects is one of optimism. New regulations and big changes have basically reset the ‘status quo’ in Formula 1.

Nevertheless, it is relevant to mention the effort the team’s management has put into adopting changes and evolve.

Bringing Pat Symonds, signing Felipe Massa (who brought Petrobras along with him) and aggressively search for financial stability through partnerships (Martini), even dropping Renault in favor of the now stronger Mercedes engine says a great deal of their goals.

“2014 is going to be a fascinating season, with regulation changes of this scale often shaking up the grid and creating opportunities for teams to make a good step forward. Over the winter we have proved our ambition by making a number of positive changes.” Williams added.

Both drivers also project optimism, given the new level of expectations. This optimism comes more from the very good performances during pre-season testing than all the aforementioned moves, but everything counts.

“2014 is starting on a positive note for WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING and hopefully we can keep that momentum going in Australia. Our car has looked reliable in testing and I have been impressed with how the team operates and how quickly I have settled in.” Said Felipe Massa.

“2014 feels like a new start for the team. The MARTINI partnership is very exciting and I’m a big fan of the new look and feel. Testing has been very productive for us and we have learnt a lot about the FW36 and its characteristics.

“I have developed a lot as a driver over the past year and with a new car that I’m confident will be a step forward compared to last year, this is a season that I hope to show people my true potential. “ Said Bottas at the event.
