Grosjean: it's difficult to find enough grip

The Lotus driver feels the car is working well but says grip is lacking
Thursday, May 22, 2014

22nd May, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Romain Grosjean says he found it hard to get enough group around the streets of Monaco during Friday practice sessions.

This morning was a learning experience as the tyres are pretty hard here so it’s difficult to find enough grip. This made things a little tricky today as there’s no space for mistakes here.” Grosjean said.

Rain cut the second practice session short but the Frenchman managed to get 33 laps under his belt during FP1.

Grosjean said he felt the car was working well and that the team got a fair amount done considering the lack of laps in the afternoon.

“Certainly the car is working well and we could run through a decent programme today, even with missing a lot of the afternoon session because of the wet track.” he said.

Pastor Maldonado also had limited running during the afternoon as the wet track wouldn’t have given the team the information they needed.

“It was disappointing in the afternoon as we planned to run more and test more parts of the car but we wouldn't have learnt what we wanted to learn with a wet track.” Maldonado said.

“We did at least get some laps at the end of the session with the super soft tyre which means we do have a comparison between the two compounds. The morning went well, even if the track’s not yet 100%.”

Though the Enstone team had limited running, the Venezuelan driver said they had enough data to prepare for qualifying on Saturday.

“We have a good amount of data so we can prepare for Saturday and qualifying which is so important here.”
