Red Bull getting closer, both drivers will start from second row

Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel clocked 3rd and 4th best time in Q3 during qualifying for the Monaco GP.

May 24, 2014 (F1plus).- At Red Bull optimism keeps mounting as both drivers will start the Monaco GP from the second row, just behind the almighty Mercedes duo.

Once again, Daniel Ricciardo was able to outperform his teammate, four-time champion Sebastian Vettel, in the last stage of the qualifying session.

The RB10 is -without a doubt- the second best car on the grid. It is almost a given, understanding how hard is to overtake in Monaco, that a podium finish is a sure thing for any of Red Bull drivers.

Daniel Ricciardo keeps the conversation going, his big smile is only in the shadow of his performances.

The Australian believes a victory can't be far off reach for the team.

“I would be disappointed not to finish on the podium tomorrow.

"I think we have the pace to hang with Mercedes, so hopefully we can at least get one of them off the line and maybe do something with strategy and give ourselves a real chance of taking a win.” Said Ricciardo.

Vettel who struggled a bit with his ERS unit, had also the disappointment of the yellow flag that spoiled his last lap, but even then, he managed to earn a start from fourth.

Surely, the German will try anything to end ahead of this teammate.

“I had some problems in qualifying today. Somewhere in Q1 we lost ERS, so basically the electric power to discharge the car and we didn’t get it back.

"In the end we ran a different mode which was fine, but surely not as good as it should be. It was the first time it had failed this weekend, but these things happen.

"We tried lots of different modes, but at some point you have to just get your head down and get on with it.

"My time was okay but then we weren’t able to improve on the second flying lap in Q3 as there was a yellow flag." The German commented after the session.
