Canadian Grand Prix: driver of the day

Find out who our driver of the day was, featuring quotes from you.

9th June, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - An action packed Canadian Grand Prix left us spoiled for choice for ‘driver of the day’.

Nico Rosberg led the majority of the race despite suffering an MGU-K failure which meant he was running with around 160bhp less than normal.

He nursed the issue and almost made it home dry but Daniel Ricciardo stole the lead with two laps to go.

To finish on the podium when suffering a substantial power loss is impressive and just shows how good that Mercedes is in comparison to their rivals.

Sergio Perez put in a strong performance but found himself with his own issues, meaning he couldn't pass Rosberg.

He was on for a strong points finish before being involved in an incident which ended both his and Felipe Massa’s race.

Massa was also looking very strong towards the end with fresh tyres and was moving through the ranks. Unfortunately the incident with Perez meant he failed to pick up any points.

Though all of those drivers put in a great performance, Ricciardo was our driver of the day at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Since the beginning of the season it has seemed that it was only a matter of time before the Australian took his first win.

Ricciardo seemed to find some extra pace towards the end of the race to move into third place and begin reeling in Rosberg. With two laps to go he made the pass and crossed the line first.

If Red Bull can recover the gap to Mercedes, we imagine Ricciardo will be back on the top step of the podium again this year.

Have your say

It seems many of you had similar feelings with the top choices being Ricciardo, Rosberg, Massa and Jenson Button.

On Twitter @istodius said: ‘Rosberg, because he held on in his stricken Merc. Not Ricciardo because it was easy to pass the ailing Merc’

On our Facebook page James Davis said ‘Daniel Ricciardo, great drive from 6th. Timed his run perfectly, could have attempted a move earlier and not paid off, waited & waited until the time was right.’.
