SILVERSTONE, 4th July 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Mercedes were fastest during FP2 in sunny Silverstone with Lewis Hamilton ending the session on top with teammate Nico Rosberg close behind.
Hamilton wasn't in the car for the last half an hour of the session after an oil pressure problem forced stopped his Mercedes on track at turn 4.
Susie Wolff suffered a similar problem during the morning’s running when her Mercedes powered Williams stopped on track also with an oil pressure problem.
Fernando Alonso looked quick again and was third fastest overall followed by Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel.
Valtteri Bottas was the fastest Williams on track, qualifying sixth. Towards the end of the session the engine cover on the left hand side of his car exploded.
The McLaren duo finished two by two with Jenson Button seventh and Kevin Magnussen eighth.
Kimi Raikkonen was unable to match the speed of teammate Alonso and finished ninth fastest with Jean-Eric Vergne close behind.
Shortly before the end of the session the Frenchman suffered an incident which saw his front left tyre appear to come loose, but it remained attached to the car.
The Williams mechanics managed to rebuild Felipe Massa’s car and he got out fairly early on in the session and put in 29 laps, finishing the session 11th.
Daniil Kvyat was 12th fastest followed by Esteban Gutierrez, Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean.
The Force India’s finished two by two with Sergio Perez finishing 16th, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg.
Romain Grosjean had a difficult session, complaining that the car was unpredictable under braking and finished the session 15th, just behind teammate Pastor Maldonado.
Adrian Sutil was 18th fastest, followed by Jules Bianchi who only did 11 laps after suffering a battery issue, which kept him out of the car for most of the session.
Kamui Kobayashi was 20th fastest followed by Marussia’s Max Chilton.
Marcus Ericsson pulled into the old pit straights 25 minutes before the session with a problem the team hadn’t identified at the time of writing.
