SILVERSTONE, 5th July 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - In a soggy final practice at Silverstone it was Red Bull who were quickest with Sebastian Vettel setting a 1:52.522 and teammate Daniel Ricciardo was just 0.109s slower.
Damp conditions and low track temperatures (around 19C / 66F) saw very few laps put in as drivers and teams decided not to risk a big crash which might put them out of qualifying.
Lotus were best of the rest in the final practice session. Pastor Maldonado was third fastest after putting in 10 laps with Romain Grosjean close behind.
Adrian Sutil was a surprise fifth place followed by Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat, who put in 15 laps.
The McLaren duo finished two-by-two, with rookie Kevin Magnussen finished seventh ahead of Jenson Button.
After limited running yesterday Felipe Massa was only able to put in four laps and was 13th fastest followed by the two Force India's of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez.
Marcus Ericsson put in 10 laps and was 16th fastest overall followed by Jules Bianchi. 15 minutes before the end of the session the Frenchman locked up and ran into the barriers at turn 15, ending his session prematurely.
Kamui Kobayashi was 18th fastest and only put in 10 laps.
Four drivers did not set a timed lap, the first of which was Max Chilton who suffered a gearbox issue early on into the session. Marussia are sure that the issue will be fixed in time for qualifying but the Briton will take a five-place grid penalty ahead of his home race.
Interestingly the three fastest drivers from Friday’s running, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, chose not to set a timed lap.
