HOCKENHEIM, 20th Jully 2014 (F1Plus / Graham Keilloh) - In recent times a lot has gone well for Nico Rosberg. He is leading the world drivers’ championship, he got married last week and Germany won the World Cup.

Today his good times continued as he won home Grand Prix at Hockenheim from pole.

Afterwards Rosberg was understandably ecstatic at it all.

“Of course everything has been special” he said.

“Really fortunate, just had…many positive things happening in the two weeks, or week and a half. Been really enjoyable, and also this weekend with pole and the win. Just awesome. Very, very special day today.

“It’s fantastic. It’s an amazing feeling for me to win here at home.

“Definitely we’ll be celebrating a little bit tonight…it would be great to continue the soccer world championship spirit today a little bit.

“With the car that we have at the moment… I’m very, very thankful to Mercedes for the car that they’ve built us, it’s really a pleasure at the moment.”

His team mate Lewis Hamilton, who was able to recover from a P20 starting slot to finish third, was more subdued but felt that on balance his day was just about a positive one.

Upon being asked afterwards if he felt the glass was half full or half empty he said: “I came from last, so to get on the podium is quite an achievement, so perhaps half full.

“I had great fun…I did as good as I could today. It was very hard to get through the pack safely. I had a little bit of a collision with Jenson (Button). I honestly thought he was opening the door to let me past, he’s been a bit like that in the past races for example, so my bad on judgment there.

"It’s very hard to overtake at the end, they (Bottas’s Williams) were so fast on the straights but I’m very happy I got some points today.”

As to whether the resultant damage from the Button collision had slowed him subsequently Hamilton said.

“I couldn’t tell you. The car was a little bit different but nonetheless to still get some points today, I’m grateful and very happy with the car today that Mercedes provided.”

Mercedes non-executive chairman Niki Lauda meanwhile had praise for the victor.

He said that today “Nico did a perfect job” as well as that since Monaco Rosberg had been: “…very good, outstanding, stable, perfect practice, perfect race, I can take my hat off and say ‘he cannot do it better’.”
