Max Chilton: Caterham changes ‘helping’ Marussia

The Briton has admitted that recent changes at Caterham can only benefit his ever-improving team as they look ahead to the rest of the season.

HUNGARORING, July 24, 2014 (F1plus/Katie Grimmett).- Max Chilton has spoken frankly and honestly about the recent changes at Caterham. Speaking on Thursday, the British racer opened up about the benefits this poses to the team as they head into the summer break.

“Caterham have gone through big changes in the last few weeks, there are lots of people going and lots of people changing roles”, he said.

“It takes a bit of time for a team to settle down, like in any sport, if you change it takes to learn your way around, learn your position and communicate so for us that’s helping”.

Chilton further noted that time will benefit Marrussia as they look to improve his MR03 during the summer break.

“Hopefully, whilst they are messing around trying to get people in the right places, we can focus on getting our car better without the FRIC system”, he continued. “We are giving it our best shot and as long as we can bring updates, we can keep knocking on their door”.

Marussia F1 currently sits eighth in the constructors’ championship after Jules Bianchi’s two points in Monaco pushed Caterham and Sauber down the order. Despite not scoring points for his team since debuting in 2013, he insists that a top ten finish in not essential to their success this year.

“As everyone knows we need a fluke race to score points”, he conceded.” Yes, we need to do well against the others to get to those points and I’ve had some good races this year, starting off strong”.

The twenty-three-year-old instead argued that his improvements in terms of consistency have only benefitted the Anglo-Russian outfit.

“The last two years, I haven’t always been particularly great but I think we’ve got to the bottom of that. I’ve been consistent and had some good results so I don’t think it’s a must, no”. He concluded.
