SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, August 22nd, 2014 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Pastor Maldonado feels his crash in FP2 was part his fault and part the cars' fault.

Seven minutes in to FP2 red flags came out after Maldonado crashed his E22 after Turn 9.

"The problem was I got a huge wheelspin on the exit of Turn 9 and I touched the gravel," Maldonado explained.

"That's it and it was worse when I touched the gravel. The problem came on the exit of the corner, I lost the car and there was nothing I could do."

“I think it’s difficult to drive. It was the first lap, cold tires, maybe a bit from my side, a bit from the car."

He visited the medical centre as a precaution and was given the all-clear by the doctor.

"I went for a quick check up and I was okay and the doctor say 'you don't need to be here'," he explained.

"It was not a big shunt."

Maldonado was 18th fastest in FP1 and did not set a time during the afternoon session due to his accident.

The Lotus driver says there was not much damage to the car and is confident that they can perform well in qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix.

"the damage to the car is not so much. I’d already been able to determine from the morning that we have a reasonable car here," he said.

"Certainly, we have potential to fight for a good qualifying session and a good race."

"We do struggle with our power for the long straights, but it is better than we expected so that’s a plus point."
