SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, August 23rd, 2014 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Jules Bianchi got through to Q2 for the third time this year to qualify 16th for the Belgian Grand Prix.
The Frenchman’s success in qualifying was a repeat of his performance last year in Spa, where he qualified 15th.
Bianchi was happy with his performance and was surprised by their performance in wet conditions.
“I’m really happy to make it through to Q2 again, especially as it repeats a good performance here last year,” Bianchi said.
“I was a little surprised that we had such a strong qualifying, simply because the tricky conditions were the same for everyone,
“yet we have fared better than some of the teams further up the grid, finishing ahead of a Lotus, a Force India and a Sauber.”
Teammate Max Chilton qualified 19th. The Briton said he made a mistake by using his energy store when the tyres weren’t at their best and felt Q2 was a possibility.
“It was pretty tricky out there so I was quite happy with the lap as I had no energy store - I used it on the previous lap when the tyres weren’t at their best,” Chilton said.
“I was closer to Jules on the first run so without the energy problem, who knows? Maybe Q2 was possible.”
