SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, August 24th, 2014 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Lewis Hamilton has claimed that Nico Rosberg told him that he crashed in to him deliberately during the Belgian Grand Prix.

On lap two Hamilton and Rosberg made contact as Rosberg tried to overtake Hamilton.

The result was a punctured tyre for Hamilton, which sent him to the back of the field. He spent most of the race running around 16th place and Mercedes retired him a few laps before the end of the race.

Post-race Hamilton told journalists that after the race Rosberg had told him that he made contact deliberately.

"We just had a meeting about it and he basically said he did it on purpose," Hamilton said during a media session.

“He said ‘I did it to prove a point’, he basically said ‘I did it to prove a point'"

The Briton explained the move and said the he felt he had left Rosberg enough space.

"I took the inside line, I had the corner, we braked very deep in to the corner because if I braked early, he would have come down the outside, which would have meant that - he was alongside me during that section - but we went in very deep both of us," he explained.

"But I still made the corner, the same normal line as I would do normally. He was in my blindspot, I could see quite far behind me and I knew that he was behind so then I continued my line,"

"We know and you can ask Fernando [Alonso], you can ask all drivers, when a car is less than half a car alongside you and you're on the inside, it's your racing line, it's not your job to go massively out your way to leave extra, extra room."

Hamilton said he was surprised that the stewards didn't investigate the incident.

"I thought for sure there'd be an investigation or something about it but I'm mostly disappointed for the team. Of course for myself because I lose points and that makes my championship harder."

Rosberg went on to finish second while Hamilton retired. This means that Rosberg has extended his championship lead to 29 points over Hamilton.
