Grosjean feels Alonso holds the key to driver market

The Lotus driver has had talks with other teams and feels he has options if he wants to leave the team.

MONZA, September 4th, 2014 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Romain Grosjean is remaining coy on his future in Formula One and says that Fernando Alonso is the key to unlocking the driver market.

 

Silly season is well underway and drivers are being asked whether they have a contract for 2015 and where they would like to be. 

Grosjean said there had been talks about a seat for next year and felt that when Alonso decided what he was doing, the market would begin to move.

He also added that he felt he had options available if he wanted to leave Lotus.

It’s been quite quiet to be fair, so far nothing crazy,” he said.

“I think you have to wait for Ferrari and Alonso. From then the market will move. So far nothing has moved much. Alonso is the key to the market.”

“from what I know everyone has contracts in the other big teams.

“There have been a few talks, but so far you just have to wait,”

“I think it is pretty clear that I have options to go somewhere if I want.”

The Frenchman played down Lotus’ chances at the Italian Grand Prix. Although they have brought a special package for the race he doesn’t feel they will be able to do much.
“I don’t think there is much we can do,” said Grosjean.
“We have special wings for here, we have every new update from the engine power unit side but top speed hasn’t been a strength for the E22 and low-speed corners neither.
“It’s the worse of both worlds, and on paper it is not going to be easy.”
Lotus have had a tough year so far and only have eight points after 12 races.
