September 5th, 2011 (F1plus Team).- Lotus Renault team, has been an interesting team so far this year. However, results has been mixed. There have been a good run of positives finishes and then the team goes into oblivion for another stint.
There is no doubt that in general, Renault belongs comfortably in the second tier of teams following Mercedes and ahead of Force India. But, more was expected and they are working to the objective of finding that -somewhat hard- consistency.
One of the weak points this season, has been achieving a good qualifying, and Senna, in his first opportunity with the team, was able to earn a seventh on grid place to start at ‘Spa”.
Boullier, the team’s Principal commented on the matter: “I think the positive energy really came about after qualifying because everyone knows it is extremely challenging for a new driver to step in. Seeing the team applauding the drivers after Q2 and Q3 was a good sign; I was very happy to see that, and it was pleasing to see smiles back on everyone’s faces.
“all in all it was a good weekend; we had a very respectable qualifying session and Bruno stepped into the cockpit successfully. These aspects were quite promising; it was encouraging for the team to be able to see the cars delivering and their work bearing fruit.”
Overall, it seemed that putting behind the Heidfeld affair -after coming to an agreement- it will be positive. On top of that, Senna was ratified as driver for the rest of the season, which is also good, since no driver likes to drive with uncertainty about his immediate future.
The brazilian driver has brought a different perspective and ambiance to Renault. One race is not enough t pass judgment, but surely is encouraging.
And Boullier said; “Yes, it’s difficult to draw too much from one race alone (Spa), whether that’s in terms of who is in the race seat or the effect of the upgrade package, but Monza should give us a clearer indication as to how things are going. Monza is always a difficult track because it requires a low downforce set-up; it has high speed corners and high speed straights. After the steps we made in Spa, I’m confident we will have a progressive weekend in Italy too.”
